In the book of Habakkuk, the prophet demanded that God do something about the evil in the land. God's response was not what Habakkuk expected. Things were about to get REALLY NASTY for Habakukk and Judah! There are two young men in my life right now that are challenging my desire to love them. The easy route would be to turn my back on them, but I don't feel that it is what Jesus would do, or what He wants me to do.
I don't think it is a coincidence that I just finished re-reading "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers, just as I am faced with this challenge. "Redeeming Love" is a story based on the Book of Hosea and is a powerful picture of God's unconditional love and acceptance for us. I am reminded that I am called to love others as God has loved me.
Love is a very strong force with the ability to change lives for eternity. While it is difficult to love certain people, the Holy Spirit is able to equip us for the challenges that loving presents. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can find ways of sharing God's love. One of these guys felt loved just because I accepted his collect phone call when he contacted me from jail, and then brought him some stamps.
Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:18
A word of caution - don't be manipulated, be led by the Holy Spirit. Jesus has sent us out as lambs among wolves to minister in His name. If the person you are called to love is open and receptive to Words of Life you can make a difference. If they are not, then shake the dust off of your sandals.
I hope you enjoy this Christian Praise Song
-Scott Smith, K-LOVE Asst. Program Director/Music Director said, "Listening to JJ Heller's 'What Love Really Means' brings me to tears! What a beautiful reminder that no matter where you find yourself in life. God loves you. Really loves you, no matter what you have done or failed to do, He is always there. What an amazing mesage to share with everyone who listens."

Please comment!

Thoughts on Humility

Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:4 NIV

In an effort to understand and internalize Jesus teaching, imagine with me what it would feel like to be the little child that Jesus used for this object lesson. However, we can control what we think about it and our choices make all the difference in the world.

I have learned at the ripe old age of 54 that -The way I see things is not necessarily the way they are!! My perspective is skewed by my experiences and mind set. The person standing next to me sees and hears the same set of images and sounds yet gets a completely different view of what is going on.

Last month, I had to make a choice about how I was going to view and respond to loosing my job.

I decided to act like I believe that "God works all things together for good to those who love him and are called according to his purpose." Ro 8:28 And that God "has a plan to give me a hope and a future, to prosper me and not to harm me." Jeremiah 29:11

Trusting Him made all the difference in the world as I looked for and found reasons to be thankful.

His Will or Mine?

Yesterday was one of those days that changes everything.

For three and a half years I have put my heart, soul, strength and mind into trying to make The Savior's Touch Christian Bookstore a successful business. Suddenly, it is over. I am relieved of my duties and suddenly have nothing but time on my hands. Now what?

I feel betrayed, angry, sad and relieved, hopeful and expectant all at the same time. I recognize that the store has taken time and energy that should belong to my husband and my children. I have managed to overlook that small detail for some time. But the truth remains. I now realize that once again I have been guilty of choosing my will over God's. I have been settling for good instead of holding out for best.

This is not the first time I have been down this detour. My six year stint in a MLM was the same story. I convinced myself that it was God's provision even though it took time and energy that should belong to my husband and children. I believed I was helping people and that I would eventually become wealthy.

My goal at the store was not so much wealth as it was significance. I believed that I was impacting people's lives by listening and sharing. I never expected to make much money so I didn't recognize the fact that I was on the wrong path again.

Today I am grieving the loss of another dream and am praying that the Holy Spirit will enable me to recognize the next detour and avoid it.

What does it mean to be subject to a king?

Having grown up in America and governed by a democracy, the idea of being ruled by a king is a foreign concept. Americans are very focused on our rights, which are protected by our constitution and law. Life in a kingdom is very different. The subjects of a king have no rights. The king is the authority and what he says is the law.

Kings are often ruthless, greedy and violent. Taking what the wanted with little regard for the needs and wishes of their subjects. This was the context of the nation of Israel when Jesus came into the world. The Jewish people longed for a king from God who would rule with justice and righteousness. The expected that this king would come with power and might and take his people by violent force from the oppressive rule of the Roman Kingdom and restore the God-centered nation they were called out to be.

But, Jesus came with love and humility and created a kingdom that is not of this world. Without military might or violence He has overcome His enemies and brought the benefits of His kingdom to those who submit to His authority. In the Bible we are introduced to a King who is present, at work, calling His people to Himself and who promises never to leave or forsake His loyal subjects.

His enemies are not sinful people or sinful nations. The enemies of our King are spiritual forces that ally with our human nature and cause us to live contrary to God's will.

hatred
division
greed
prejudice
lust

These enemies have been overcome, but Satan continues to try to build strongholds. Our king has give us POWER AND PERMISSION to remove these from our life. It is up to us to use that POWER. The King has spoken and His Word is law.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Eph 6:12
The victory is claimed when we submit to His authority and remove those spiritual forces of evil from our lives. We are blessed to have a King who loves us unconditionally and who always has our best interest at heart. Choosing to please Him is always the best choice, but is contrary to our human nature. It is our duty as subjects of the King to know Him and obey Him.

This message is taken from the sermon Wesley Bolden preached at First Christian Church last Sunday.

A Breath of Fresh Air and a Drop of Cool Water

If you have ever experienced the refreshment of a cold drink and a cool breeze when you are tired and weary you will understand how I felt this week as the Lord poured out His Spirit at The Savior's Touch and at First Christian Church.
On Thursday of this week the store hosted a Pastor's Breakfast in the morning and a Woman's Bible Study in the evening. Then on Sunday morning our congregation enjoyed a challenging, encouraging and expertly delivered message by our new minister, Wesley Bolden. We have not had a full time pastor in three years and hearing Wesley preach I am convinced that God sent him and it was worth the wait.
At the Pastor's Breakfast, I learned about innovative ministries going on in the community that I had been completely unaware were happening.

Life and Peace - is bringing arts and enrichment to the young people of Milledgeville through a free program called "Campus Club"

Church Central - is feeding the hungry every Tuesday at lunch time.

Westview Baptist - is working on an interactive Christmas Program and pastor Jody Branch and his wife, Leeann, are at work with Milledgeville Players trying to influence the group to make its offerings more family friendly. Jody hopes that the Christian Community will support the Smoke on The Mountain Show which is decidedly more family friendly than The Players usual fare and will make an impact if it is well received. For tickets to the show please contact Allied Arts.

The meeting ended with a discussion about the need for working together to build the kingdom of God. Because these ministries do not take place during the traditional Sunday morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday evening time frames it is possible for brothers and sisters of Our One Lord Jesus Christ to join with members of a different congregation and use their talents and abilities in ways that will build the citywide church.

The Woman's meeting was led by Brenda Warren of Living Word of God Church. The study of the book of Ephesians dealt with Walking Like a Woman of Grace. We covered Chapters 1 -4 and scheduled the conclusion for November 19th.

This meeting also ended with a discussion about how brothers and sisters of Our One Lord Jesus Christ need to work together to make the fellowship of believers relevant before we loose the younger generation.

On Sunday morning Wesley challenged the body at First Christian to make the Kingdom Commitment to use the power and permission given by our King to remove the Spiritual Forces of Evil (hatred, division, greed, prejudice and lust) from our lives and claim the victory that has already been won.

God is so good!! And all His children say, "Amen"

Sharing Ideas

Today a customer in the store asked my what I knew about puppet ministry resources. In America our false gods are our 401k's, our jobs and careers and our stuff. In today's economy many have seen the demise of the gods they have given their lives to serve.

Both the owners and the gods are bowed down. The gods cannot protect the people
and the people cannot protect the gods. They go off into captivity together. v 2 (NLT)

Many are wringing their hands in desperation, imprisoned by hopelessness and fear. Some have even taken their own life to escape from a future without the financial stability they had relied on for their security.

Even the children of the One True God have served these gods in varying degrees. I spent six years in the Financial Services Industry encouraging people to "protect their future" with investments and insurance. While these instruments can be useful it is imperative that they do not become the source of our security. We have been caught up in the culture and have been led astray from our dependence on our True Source.

Listen to me descendants of Jacob, all of you who remain in Israel. I have cared
for you since you were born. Yes, I carried you before you were born. I will be
your God throughout your lifetime -- until your hair is white with age. I made
you and I will care for you. v 4 (NLT)

Believers in Jesus Christ have been grafted into the one true vine. We can receive the inheritance promised to the descendants of Jacob.

We will have hardships and trials, but we can depend on our God to carry us through, until the day He calls us home. The volume also includes an extensive Family History section which would potentially create a family heirloom.
I firmly believe that God has blessed America because we were a Christian nation and I fear what will happen in the future as our nation moves further and further from standards of Christian morality and faith. This Bible may serve as a reminder and a challenge of our duty as citizens to defend our faith in the public arena. It has certainly caused a passionate debate on many of the review sites.
Recently, I was made painfully aware of my inability to defend my belief in our Christian Heritage when a relative challenged me. I am glad to have this information at my fingertips in the future.
This would be a good volume for reference while studying American History if presenting a Christian Worldview is important to you.

Jesus Calling by Sarah Young

This 366 day daily devotional challenges, encourages and teaches readers to abide in Christ. The author invites the reader to share with her the messages that Jesus has impressed on her spirit as she has developed the habit of quietly listening to His still small voice. His invitation the trust Him completely and to be thankful for His loving care becomes an overarching theme throughout. Each message is followed by recommended Scriptures that give authority to the messages.

When I first received this book, I read the first three months in one sitting and finished it the next day. Now I am looking forward to going back through it one day at a time and reading the recommended Scriptures and journaling as I go. I feel compelled to seek the closeness that the author enjoys with my Savior and am thankful that she has shared her journey with me.

This book would make an excellent gift for someone who is going through a difficult time. In fact, I will have to purchase a new copy because I gave mine away when I learned that my friend's elderly mother has quit eating and will probrably be going home soon.

Many thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishers for their Book Review Blogger program http://brb.thomasnelson.com/

The Principle of The Path by Andy Stanley

WARNING-If you do not want to be challenged to re-evaluate the choices you have made and are making DO NOT READ this book. If you do read you will no longer be able to blame anyone but yourself for the consequences of you actions. You will make choices with your eyes wide open. I have made choices that I regretted and wondered, "How did I deceive myself into believing that these were good choices?" Now I know.
Andy Stanley does a masterful job of teaching individuals how to use their heads instead of being led by the deceitfulness of their hearts. He uses humor and storytelling to lead the reader to a clear understanding of the inescapable principles at work behind every decision. He includes a study guide to further enhance the readers grasp of the principles and to help apply the principles to life.
Many thanks to Thomas Nelson and their Book Review Blogger Program

"The Noticer" by Andy Andrews

"The Noticer" is one of those books that is so simple it is profound. The main character, Jones (not Mr. Jones, just Jones) changes the lives of everyone he meets by simply helping them to see things a little differently. Jones always appears at a choice moment and then is gone before you know leaving behind a new perspective that shines a new light on a problem and illuminates a path of greater understanding that leads to a better outcome.
The book was engaging and easy to read and left me feeling hopeful, thoughtful and encouraged. From the first paragraph I was convinced that this was a book I really needed to read. I was feeling discouraged and frustrated and realized right away that a new perspective could make a difference and it did. Jones was very mysterious and the reader is left with questions about exactly who he was supposed to be. But he was very much someone I would hope to meet and be glad to know. Perhaps I could be Jones to someone I know.
The characters that Jones meets and helps with his unique perspective were easily recognizable types the reader can identify with and thus profit from Jone's message. Many elements/lessons in the book were very familiar, but were pulled together in the book for a greater impact.
I am a member of Thomas Nelson’s Book Review Blogger program http://brb.thomasnelson.com/. Not only is the mp3 format easy to use and the text easy to understand, but they chose the actors that most young people know and love. The all-star cast includes:

Anna Sophia Robb

Corbin Bleu

Emily Osment

Cody Linley

Sean Astin

Jordin Sparks and

Marshall Allman

With book introductions by Max Lucado and Jenna Lucado.

The 75 minute "behind the scenes" DVD includes interviews with the stars. I found it very encouraging to hear the cast members describing their individual relationships with Christ. Each one spoke of the importance of being faithful to His Word and the value of dependence on God. Each one seemed genuinely thrilled to be working on a project with a strong spiritual value and potential to change lives. I hope that the project will have a powerful and long-lasting impact on their lives as they are in many ways the leaders and spokespersons for the next generation.

The quality of the product was excellent as well. The sound effects did not overpower the words but nicely complemented the text making it come to life and adding interest.

Community

This month I am celebrating my second anniversary at The Savior's Touch. It has been a steep learning curve dealing with ordering and accounting and operations. My life verse for this season has been "Lord, I don'tknow what to do but my eyes are on you." 2 Ch 20:12 But, the greatest lesson I have learned is that I have been missing out on knowing my brothers and sisters in Christ who don't go to my church. I have been blessed to share in the joys and struggles and lives of so many wonderful people. I love going to The Savior's Touch!

We (David and Deborah and Danny and Theresa) want our friend to get to know each other through the wonders of technology. Through our soon to launch web site, Facebook, our blog, email and a new medium called twitter we can share what is going on and pray for each other in real time! Amazing!

Are you launching a new Bible Study, having a guest speaker or musician, or putting on a special holiday program? Let us help you spread the word. Imagine having to set a capacity cap instead of hoping people will come!

You are invited to join our community by becoming a "fan" of our Facebook page. Once a "fan" you will be notified by email whenever a new item is posted. You can visit our page and post a notice about your event and our entire community will see it!

We will also use these avenues to inform you of special promtion in the store and will post coupons and special prices and sales.

I want to thank all of our wonderful customers for a blessed two years and look forward to getting to know all of you better in the years to come.

Join The Jury in Randy Singer's new Novel "The Justice Game"

Are there any Randy Singer fans out there? My Rep from Tyndale sent me the following email about his new book which will be released this summer.

In order to create excitement for his next release, Randy has created a video that will give readers an opportunity to vote on the outcome of the trial in his book. You will have the chance to view a short 5 minute video and then act as a member of the fury. Tandy's conclusion to the book will reflect the voting.

Please go to : www.randysinger.net, click on the button in The Justice Game banner and view the closing arguments in the case. Then render your verdict. It would be a great help if you'd be willing to forward this on to your friends and fellow book enthusiast.

I have not read any of his books yet. However, when I read his bio on the site above I was intrigued. Just for fun please respond to my blog and tell me who you think did it after you watch the video.

God Will Provide ENOUGH in 2009

The New Year got off to a great start at The Savior's Touch. On Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 we were blessed to host a book signing for "He Came With a Message" by local author Sherri Prestwood.

The book is about the young man in the picture, Chad Thomas. At seven years old his spinal cord was injured when an intern in the recovery room tried to give him a spinal block instead of an epidural to reduce his pain after surgery.

Twenty months later he was involved in a serious car accident in which his sister was killed and he was thrown from the car and skidded across the pavement on his face breaking every bone in his face.
Chad is now seventeen and has had more than forty surgeries. Through it all he and his family have survived and flourished largely because of their strong faith and trust in God. The title of the book comes from an incident that occurred during a hospitalization following the spinal cord injury. Late one night an unknown visitor and his wife came to his room and prophesied that he would be alright and that God would provide for him and use him for God's glory.

On the night before the book signing the Sherri called me to break the news that they only had 60 books available for our event. Despite the fact that they had done everything humanly possible to get their shipment of 300 books in time for the signing they would not arrive until Monday. I assured her that God was in control and that all we could do was all we could do and it would be OK. I had 3 books in stock and received 6 more in my Friday order. We decided that if we ran out we would take orders and deliver the signed books next week.

I thought that 60 books would be a gracious plenty because it far exceeded the number of books that were sold at previous book signing that we have hosted.

The signing was scheduled to begin at 10am and finish at 4. When Sherri, Chad and Chad's parents arrived at 10 am there were people already at the store waiting for them. There were people waiting buy books and to speak to them all day long. At five minutes before 4 they signed their last book!

The story brings to mind the story of Gideon in the Bible whose army was reduced from thousands to a few hundred so that it would be obvious that the victory belongs to Him.

Are You Merry This Christmas

My church has been blessed to have Dan Garrett bringing the message for the last several weeks. This week's sermon was so encouraging that I wanted to try to put it in print. This is my version of what Dan shared based on what it said to me.

The Google definition of mer·ry is...

1. Full of high-spirited gaiety; jolly.
2. Marked by or offering fun and gaiety; festive: a merry evening.
3. Delightful; entertaining.

Difficult circumstances, disappointment, loss, financial strain or fear of an uncertain future has the potential to steal the joy from the Holiday Season. These issues are not anything new. Mary and Joseph, the wisemen and the shepherds likely had issues too.

Mary was dealing with being an unwed mother, forced to take a road trip, on a donkey, at full term. Joseph was the husband of the woman taking a road trip, on a donkey, at full term (and not the father of the baby). The wise men had to admit that they couldn't explain the unusual star and leave their comfort zone, and the shepherds had to leave their flocks unattended to go see a baby.

They most likely felt helpless, vulnerable and out of control. This is a recipe for depression. According to a leading psychologist, these hopeless feelings are at the root of most situations that cause individuals to seek professional help for depression.

BUT, Jesus chose to leave heaven and became that baby in a stinky stable. He chose to come to die so that we can be forgiven and enjoy His presence in our lives forever. This is a reason for joy!!

Joy to the world does not mean that I have to be perky all the time. Life is tough! But we can choose to focus on the gift -- Emmanuel -- God with us. When we choose to shift our focus, from the difficult circumstances of life, to the God who loves us so much that He sent His Son--We choose JOY.

Once Mary, Joseph, the wisemen and the shepherds experienced the wonder of that first Christmas it is likely that they never looked at life the same again. They saw that God's plan in the difficult circumstances had a wonderful, and amazing outcome and purpose. Likely, they trusted Him to continue to be in control and work all things together for good as Romans 8:28 claims He will.

My prayer for my friends, my family and myself is that this holiday season and in the months ahead we will be filled with joy because God is with us and He is in control.

Next on my "Reading List"

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT CHRISTIANITY

by Dinesh D'Souza

From the book jacket:
Is Christianity true? Can an intelligent, college-educated person really believe the Bible? Or do the atheists have it right? Has Christianity been disproven by science, debunked as a force for good, and discredited as a guide to morality?

Bestselling author Dinesh D’Souza (What’s So Great About America) approaches Christianity with a skeptical eye, but treats the skeptics with equal skepticism. The result is a book that will challenge the assumptions of both believers and doubters and affirm that there really is, indeed, something great about Christianity.

“With scholarship and eloquence that reminds me of C. S. Lewis, Dinesh D’Souza addresses the urgent questions of our time, such as ‘Is Christianity believable in the face of the discoveries of modern science and modern scholarship?’ His answer is a resounding yes. More than a decisive refutation of atheist attacks, this is a powerful, affirming, genuinely exciting argument for Christianity. You may want to carry this one around with you.”
—Reverend Robert H. Schuller

D’Souza reveals:
Why Christianity explains the universe, and our origins, better than atheism does
Why Christianity and science are not irreconcilable, but science and atheism might be
Why the alleged sins of Christianity—the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Galileo affair—are vastly overblown
Why atheism is a demonstrably dangerous creed—and a cowardly one
Why evolution does not threaten Christian belief
Why atheists fear the Big Bang theory
Why Christianity is the ultimate defense of man’s free will
Why ultimately you can’t have Western civilization—and all we value from it—without the Christianity that gave it birth

Provocative, enlightening, a twenty-first-century successor to C. S. Lewis’s Mere Christianity, Dinesh D’Souza’s What’s So Great About Christianity is the perfect book for the seeker, the skeptic, and the believer who wants to defend his faith.

“Responding to the current epidemic of atheist manifestos, Dinesh D’Souza applies just the right balm for the troubled soul. Assembling arguments from history, philosophy, theology, and science—yes, science!—he builds a modern and compelling case for faith in a loving God. If you’re seeking the truth about God, the universe, and the meaning of life, this is a great place to look.”
—Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Institute

Talk about a challenge!! I have to admit, I have had to rely on my dictionary regularly!! However- the information in this book is very compelling and neccesary knowledge for a Christian who wants to be able to defend his/her faith in today's society. Not light reading, but worth the effort.

If you have read this, please comment.

Lies Women Believe

We began working through "Lies Women Believe" by Nancy DeMoss in our Wednesday night class at church about 6 weeks ago.

I have found it to be very insightful and again challenging. The book is based on the premise that Satan lied to Eve in the garden and because she believed the lie, she acted on the lie and the entire human race has been in bondage to sin ever since. Satan's tactics have not changed and he still lies to us whenever he gets the chance. If we believe his lies, we will act on them and our choices and actions will lead us into bondage also. We can be freed from bondage if we can recognize the lies and replace them with the Truth.

So far we have covered the chapters about lies women believe about God, sin, themselves, priorities and marriage.

The challenge comes when you recognize that you have clearly accepted a lie and now must change your behavior to be in agreement with God's Word.

One lie that really challenged me - that word again - was the one that states: I can get by without spending time with God every day. After all these years there are still days when I stay in bed until the last possible moment and then rush into the day without taking time to receive my marching orders. When will I learn? Once again I am making the commitment to be more consistent about my quit time.

If you have read this book please comment about your "challenging" revelations and how you are handling the Truth now that you know.

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='William P. Young has raised quite a bit of controversy. I have just finished reading it and found that it was very insightful and well written. I'm not a theologian so I'm not going to try to deal with the finer points, but I was challenged by what it said about love and judgement. I like to read books that challenge me and this book did accomplish that end.

In Chapter Eleven, Mack has an encounter with Sophia - a personification of God's perfect wisdom. When he is invited to be the judge, Mack claims that he has no experience at judging to which Sophia replies,

You have already proven yourself very capable, even in our short time together. And besides, you have judged many throughout your life. You have judged the actions and even motivations of others, as if you somehow knew what those were in truth. You have judged the color of skin and body language and body odor. You have judged history and relationships. You have even judged the value of a person's life by the quality of your concept of beauty. By all accounts, you are quite well-practiced in the activity. . .

. . .By what criteria do you base your judgments?. . .

. . .Judging requires that you think yourself superior over the one you judge. . .

To which Mack comes to the conclusion that:

. . .All his judgments had been superficial, based on appearance and actions, things easily interpreted by whatever state of mind or prejudice that supported the need to exalt himself, or to feel safe, or to belong. . .

There is more about judgment in this chapter that is worthy of thought and
consideration, but these are the things that challenged and convicted me. I am often guilty of passing judgment, and when I do it hurts me and hurts others. I need to learn to love and leave the judging to God.

On the subject of love, the character called Jesus says,

"All I want from you is to trust me with what little you can, and grow in loving people around you with the same love I share with you. It's not your job to change them, or to convince them. You are free to love without an agenda." p. 181

I am often guilty of withholding my love in an attempt to try to control the people closest to me or to force them to meet my expectations. Focusing on loving them, rather than fixing them, certainly makes a big difference. It does free me to love unconditionally. I recently had a conversation with my 25 year old daughter, Bonnie about these issues. She said that judgmental attitudes and the feeling that she had to live up to a certain standard in order to be accepted had made her want nothing to do with the church now that she was grown and could make her own choices. While she continues to seek a relationship with Christ and to live her life in a way that glorifies Him, she is not actively serving with a body of believers.

While I’m not advocating that we should embrace a “tolerant,” anything goes mindset, I do think that it is very important and often a very difficult task to communicate love and acceptance while teaching truth.

What do you think?

Intimacy or Isolation

I just have to share with you this paragraph from "Twenty Piece Shuffle"-

"Ironically, true intimacy is probably also one of our greatest fears. Most of us spend a tremendous amount of time, energy, and money creating an image of ourselves to sell to the world around us--an image based on what we would like to believe about ourselves, if we didn't know better. An image more acceptable, we hope, than the unlovely self we are sure would be rejected if it was discovered. Fearing to be truly known, we hoist an image and carry it before us like a shield , protecting the vulnerable, tender inner core in which we truly dwell. The more we succumb to this fear, the deeper we descend into isolation and the more convinced we become we must hide the "awful truth" about our deepest selves."

I have to admit that this quote was very descriptive of the way I often feel. What do you think about it?

I've been thinking

I have been reading some interesting books recently about what the church of Jesus Christ was designed to be vs. what it has become. I have been a member of First Christian Church for 26 years and it has been a very positive and very important part of my life. I thank God for the opportunity to be a part of the body of Christ. People in my church reached out to my husband and I when we were very lost and headed for disaster. I am in no way condemning the corporate worship that is the church of America today. What I am thinking is - "is that all there is?"

About three months ago I read Pagan Christianity by George Barna and Frank Viola and learned that most of what Christians do in present-day churches is not rooted in the New Testament, but in pagan culture and rituals developed long after the death of the apostles.

This was a real eye opener for me. My "non-denominational" denomination born out of the Restoration Movement teaches that we are Christian only- There were a number of preachers in different religions and sections of America during that time who started to emphasize a return to the pristine Christianity of the New Testament. Many of whom claimed as their motto, "Where the Bible speaks; we speak; where the Bible is silent, we are silent".
So, why do we do what we do like we do it? and is it effective? Are we accomplishing the work that Jesus called us to do?

This week I learned that a member of our church has some very disturbing family issues. The issue is hush hush and few people know about it and no one is doing anything about it. I don't know what to do. I'm not supposed to know!

I am asking myself what would Jesus want me to do when a new book comes into the store on our autoship new release program from David C Cook. "The Twenty Piece Shuffle" by Greg Paul addresses the issue of taking off our "everything is just fine" masks, getting real and meeting the needs of those around us. Jesus cared passionately about the needs of the poor and downtrodden. To be honest I have not.

Also this week, Jerry Easterwood came and talked to our Sunday School Class about The Compassionate Care Clinic. Hmmm, what a coincidence--NOT.

I don't know what God is calling me to do, but I know I can't do it alone. If this message resonates with you, please comment.

Hope for a Blessed Marriage

Last Friday I was asked to testify at a friend’s custody hearing. As we waited for our turn to go before the judge, we witnessed several other cases that were called before my friend’s case. I came away with an enormous feeling of sorrow. I realized that without the grace of God I could very well be waiting in the same line.

I want to share some of the resources that I feel have contributed to the fact that my husband and I recently celebrated our 28th Anniversary and our seven children are secure in knowing that their parents love and honor each other.

Our marriage did not start out on a firm foundation, but we were both determined that divorce was not an option. Therefore, we could either be miserable for the rest of our lives or learn to make it work.

First and foremost in God’s plan for guiding us along the right path was the Family Life Conference “A Weekend to Remember”. We have attended four times. At the conference I learned that God created and ordained marriage and has a plan for how it should work. The world’s plan for marriage that I had known was very different and very flawed. The conference laid out God’s plan and provided direction.

A book that made a big impact in teaching me to be a better wife was, “A Woman After God’s Own Heart” by Elizabeth George. Many books I read about making marriage better left me feeling discouraged because they required a mutual effort. He wasn’t always as receptive as I would have liked. I felt that if he would - then I would - and then we could be happy, but he won’t - so I can’t - so there is no hope. This book taught me that I should treat my husband with love and respect whether I felt like he deserved it or not out of obedience to Christ. Christ is always deserving of my obedience and the Word does command wives to honor their husbands. This mindset helped me to be more loving even when I didn’t feel like it. Lo and behold my relationship with my husband improved dramatically!

Finally, I will mention one other book that has taken our relationship to new levels of joy and satisfaction. “Reviving Your Romance” by Terry and Barbie Franklin is a 40-day devotional that helped us to talk about deep issues that are rarely discussed. Talking about these things made us feel closer than ever before.

Please be encouraged. God loves you and has an amazing plan for your marriage. He wants it to be a source of joy and delight. If you will trust Him and seek His will, He will take you from wherever you are right now to a place of abundance. He did it for Danny and I and He will do it for you too!

Welcome

Retailing in the 21st Century

This blog is my attempt to take advantage of another available avenue to help keep The Savior's Touch Christian Bookstore and Homeschool Supply Store open for business.

We greatly appreciate the support of the people and churches in the area who use our store to provide for their Christian Resource needs.

I have been managing the store for just over a year now and give God all the glory for a 20% increase in sales.
